Birthing Journey

My journey into birthing began after the completion of my initial yoga certification program in 2005. After assisting in a prenatal yoga class, I was overwhelmed with a sense of raw beauty while witnessing the connection between Mother/Parent and Baby. I knew during inspirational breathing and guided meditation at the end of class I wanted to be a part of this extraordinary and blessed gift with expectant mothers in preparation for my own journey into motherhood…..one day.

I wanted my students to be confident in my ability to teach yoga asana but needed the knowledge to help create a calming and nurturing environment for expectant mothers as I didn’t have any children of my own. I enrolled in a program with the Global Birthing Institute in 2005 to prepare for another journey as a Doula. I volunteered at the Terra Association and assisted in helping teens prepare for Labour + Delivery and motherhood.

For years I continued to teach several weekly prenatal yoga classes in Edmonton and surrounding cities as well, served with much gratitude as a Doula for many local couples. Retirement as a doula called early when I discovered I was pregnant with my son and made the dedication to focus my teachings on yoga.

I am truly blessed to have connected with Clare Newman and Mamata Yoga: Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga. The training and the information provided is comprehensive and cover more than Pre and Postnatal aspects... One can see that Clare has put her heart and soul into designing this training and the depth of compassion and commitment she has for women and mothers' health.

Yoga Teacher Training

After the birth of my son in 2008, I returned to teaching yoga and became passionate about uniting mother/parent and baby through the use of traditional yoga practices such as pranayama (breath), meditation and mantra (healing sounds) while incorporating mindfulness techniques I learned as a Doula. I created Mamata Yoga in 2011 after I discovered I was pregnant with my daughter.

I decided to create a prenatal yoga teacher training to help create a solid unification of current yoga instructors and professionals who are interested in assisting women and birth beings through pregnancy, preparation for labour + birth and inspiring a healthy postpartum recovery. I have been a yoga practitioner with over 23 years of experience.

I studied Iyengar yoga intensively for over 4 years and attended the teacher training program at the Yoga studio College of Alberta in 2005 (certified). I am an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500), Registered Children’s Yoga  Teacher (RCYT) and Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT) with the Yoga Alliance. I've been a full-time teacher for over 17 years and have over 24,000 teaching hours. I have assisted and led 200-hour teacher trainings with Yoga Alliance since 2007 and am honoured to be the Program Director of the 200 HR Online Embodied Soul Yoga Teacher Training program.

It was so much more than yoga training! The course was like a treasure trove of learning that informed all my other work with families and excited and inspired me. Clare is so passionate about what she does and supporting the mother-baby bond through yoga, the work put into the manual and videos were phenomenal. Thank you!!
